Biographical Sketch: Charles R. Clevenger

Native Ohio painter and concert pianist Charles Clevenger has combined careers in music and art. He studied watercolor with I. D. Washington and Darrell Koons, and piano performance with Imogene Darling, Raymond Dudley, and Richard Morris. As a visual artist, Clevenger’s work is characterized by an immediacy and a sense of place only possible by “being there.” His transparent watercolors are noted for their crisp whites, virtuoso brushwork, and convincing use of the light. As a painter, his works hang in numerous private, public, corporate, and collegiate collections. His favorite visual subjects are character studies of people and images drawn from his travels around America.

Chuck's first love, though, is the piano, and he is most well known as a musical performing artist. He holds a Doctor of Musical Arts degree in piano performance from the University of Cincinnati’s College-Conservatory of Music and has served on the faculty of Cedarville University for 22 years, where he is both a Full Professor of Piano in the Music Department and a watercolor instructor in the Art program. As a classical concert artist, Dr. Clevenger's performances combine impressive technique and sure musical knowledge with the fire of the Russian keyboard school. Chuck’s sacred concerts provide a ministry of encouragement to fellow Christians through music. His speaking ministry in churches, schools, and colleges across the nation, his musical gifts, and his personal testimony have been an encouragement to thousands of believers. In 2002 "Dr. C," as his students call him, was elected Faculty Member of the Year by the Cedarville University student body. He resides in Cedarville, Ohio with his wife Rhonda and daughter Courtenay. His music and art are available on his website: www.clevengerstudios.com.
