Creating a commissioned a work of art should be a satisfying experience for both the client and the artist. For over 25 years, I have had the privilege of working with clients to bring their visions to life: commemorating special occasions, documenting important milestones, and recording priceless family moments for posterity. I have executed commissions on a wide range of themes, including architectural, historical, and family documentaries.
I am available to do watercolors for you on commission, after talking with you about your ideas, needs, and requirements for the work. My goal is to capture a moment in time that will preserve a memory, a place, or the personality of someone dear to you. We will work together to create the concept for the artwork, and you will have input at every stage of the painting
Note: The size of each painting is the actual painted area. Watercolors require matting to keep the glass from touching the painting itself; therefore, the framed size of any painting will be the “size” given below, plus the width of the mats.
The price of any commissioned painting depends upon the size and complexity of the subject.
The purchase price quoted below for each category includes $100 for the concept sketch plus the actual studio fee.

Once the Client contacts Clevenger Studios about the possibility of a commissioned piece, the work goes through several stages: initial appointment, concept sketch, Client approval, execution, and delivery. Here is a brief explanation of each stage:
(No charge) Client and artist will meet, either in person or electronically, to discuss the Client's wishes and agree on a working concept for the piece(s).
$100.(non-refundable). This is a pencil or pen-and-ink sketch to establish composition and values for the finished work. It will bear enough resemblance to the finished piece to convey the concept. If the client approves the concept, the project will proceed. The concept sketch remains the property of Clevenger Studios but may, at our discretion, be given to the client upon delivery of the finished project. Another option is that the Concept Sketch can be scanned and sent electronically to the Client for use as a screen-saver.
The Client has control of the project at this point. Upon approval of the concept, half of the studio fee is due in advance, to secure the artist’s time and establish a schedule for completion of the painting. The advance on the studio fee is non-refundable.
The interval between approval and completion of the piece is typically 3 weeks. The finished painting will be hand-delivered if practical. Otherwise the Artist will bear the cost of shipping and insurance. The remaining half of the studio fee is payable upon delivery of the finished work.
If creation of the finished work demands travel at the client’s request, the client will bear all the artist’s travel expenses, including airfare, ground transportation, lodging, and meals.
The copyright on any concept sketch and on all finished artwork shall belong to Clevenger Studios, with all reproduction rights reserved, unless otherwise negotiated between the client and the artist.
